Realising the Ambition (RtA) Practice Guidance explores ‘the range of interactions, experiences and spaces we need to provide for babies and young children to help them learn and grow best from their earliest days through to being a young child in early primary school’ Education Scotland, 2020
This virtual session will provide an opportunity to embrace what the guidance is and what it is not. Realising the Ambition was published as the world entered the early stages of the pandemic and for many in the sector opportunities to build confidence in the guidance have been limited.
RtA builds upon the original principles and philosophy of Pre-Birth to Three and Building the Ambition and this session will:
Tuesday 19th July 4.30PM-6.00PM
This virtual session aims to build individual confidence and empower practitioners to engage all children with the world of storytelling, encouraging children to see the wonder in this activity.
Are you the practitioner who will carry the story basket, wear the wig and have the puppets ready for a story? Or, are you the practitioner who fears the moment when someone asks you to read a story with a group of children? This session will offer discussion and suggestions regardless of your response.
We will explore what can often be seen in practice, discussing why storytelling is so powerful and how your play such a vital role in this experience for our youngest children.
In this session we will identify resources to help you and we will identify resources that could support you in your engagements with children who have additional needs or for those children who have English as an Additional Language.
Let’s embrace Visit Scotland's Year of Stories and take the storytelling pledge with Early Years Scotland.
Thursday 21st July 7.00PM - 8.30PM
We are delighted that Dr Laura Kerr is joining us once again to repeat the delivery of her highly successful session on supporting recovery in very young children. This session will provide an opportunity to reflect on your experiences of the last two years.
This virtual event focusses on young children's mental health. Laura is a clinical psychologist with extensive experience of supporting recovery in very young children. She will share what really matters when it comes to emotional wellbeing in little children. You will be encouraged to consider the skills you already have and use with older children and adults and how the same skills can also work with our youngest children.
Tuesday 23 August 6.00PM - 8.00PM
This session is for all staff or volunteers who have contact with children and/or families no matter how minimal, anyone who has not received child protection training previously or is in need of refreshed input, and anyone new to working with children and families in Scotland.
This virtual event will provide an overview of practice guidance and child protection with reference to the recently published National Guidance for Child Protection in Scotland 2021.
Child Protections is the safeguarding of children and the responsibility of all. Attendees will gain an understanding of what is meant by ‘it’s everyone’s responsibility to protect children’ and be more familiar with the signs, indicators and types of child abuse and neglect.
In addition, attendees will have increased confidence about what to do if a child discloses abuse and know their roles and responsibilities in contributing to the protection of children.
The Early Years sector is a truly diverse and distinct one and in recognition of this, the Early Years Scotland Annual Conference offers a range of high-level speakers who will provide valuable input across a wide range of topics to support the interests of all those invested in our youngest children.
This event will support networking opportunities and celebrate a return to large scale in-person professional learning for the sector. Attendance at the event can be used as evidence towards meeting the standards for your professional body, SSSC/GTCS. For those unable to attend in person we have a streaming only ticket option.
